COMMUNITY GOVERNANCE REVIEW
COMMUNITY GOVERNANCE REVIEW
You will hopefully have seen another letter from Wiltshire Council regarding the Community Governance Review, but what does it mean to you? Periodically, these reviews are undertaken by Wiltshire Council to look at possible changes to electoral arrangements in Wiltshire’s towns and parishes. Lots of proposals had been received by Wiltshire Council and were consulted on, and they have now made their Recommendations and want to know what residents feel about the proposals they have recommended.
Melksham Without Parish Council had put forward three proposals for changes in boundaries and Melksham Town Council have proposed to merge both councils.
Wiltshire Council are recommending that the merger DOES NOT take place, this is Recommendation 12. If you agree with this you will need to comment “YES” whereas during the last round of consultation you would have had to have commented “NO”.
Wiltshire Council have agreed with the proposals for the new housing developments at Hunters Wood and Sandridge Place to move from Melksham Without to Melksham Town and these are Recommendation 13.
Melksham Without Parish Council have withdrawn their request for a boundary change with Seend to move the BRAG (Bowerhill Residents Action Group) picnic area and Giles Wood from Seend to Melksham Without.
You can review the background information and reasons why the Recommendations were made – and comment on what you think about them – at http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/council-democracy-cgr The Melksham/Melksham Without schemes are on pages 40-50 on the Draft Recommendations report, and you can comment by clicking on the link for Consultation on Draft Recommendations. The deadline for comments is 10th July. A decision is expected to be made by Wiltshire Council in September. Any changes will come into effect for the parish and town council elections in May 2021.
